Okayama University's Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, through its Institute for Cultural Dynamics, hosted its 60th RIDC Monthly Research Seminar. The event, held online on October 7, focused on the DNA analysis of human remains discovered in the 4th-century tomb of Kumaki Sōshō 4 in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture. The seminar brought together experts in archaeology and genetics to discuss the implications of the findings. The remains, unearthed during archaeological excavations, provided valuable insights into the genetic makeup and health conditions of people from the Asuka period. The research aims to contribute to the understanding of historical populations and their interactions. The online format allowed participation from scholars across Japan, facilitating a broader exchange of knowledge. The seminar highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in uncovering the past.
