Okayama University held its autumn degree conferral ceremony with English-speaking hosts for the first time, marking a new initiative in its academic traditions. The event, which took place at the university’s main campus, featured a bilingual component where selected graduates presented their degrees in English. This change was part of the university’s broader efforts to enhance international engagement and support students interested in global career paths.

The ceremony included speeches from university officials, acknowledgments of academic achievements, and the official awarding of degrees. A total of 1,234 students received their degrees, with 45 of them participating in the English-hosted segment. These students were chosen based on their proficiency in English and interest in international studies. The university provided language support and training to ensure the participants were well-prepared for the event.

Okayama University has been gradually increasing its focus on internationalization over the past decade. It has introduced English-taught programs, expanded exchange opportunities, and improved language support services. This latest initiative aligns with its strategic goal of becoming a more globally connected institution. The English-hosted degree conferral is expected to encourage more students to pursue international careers and contribute to the university’s growing reputation in global education.
